Basic Cake Recipe

For approximately 12 slices 
150 g Margarine or butter 
150 g Sugar 
3 Eggs 
200g of white flour (or 100g of white flour and 100g of integral flour) 
1 Tsp of baking powder
1.   Line the inside of a cake-tin with grease proof paper. 
2.   Soften slightly the margarine or butter 
3.   Blend together in a bowl the margarine or butter with the sugar. 
4.   In a separate bowl crack the three eggs 
5.   Slowly add the eggs into the margarine and sugar mixture and blend together 
6.   Gently fold in the flour and the baking powder with a large metal spoon, by stirring the spoon in the pattern of an 8. 
7.   Once it is all mixed together spoon the mixture in the cake tin, and smooth the top gently. 
8.   Bake in the oven for 50 minutes at 180ºC. Sometimes it is ready in about 40 minutes, so it is important to check, but not to many times because the cake mixture can sink. 
9.   The cake will be ready when you prick it with a tooth pick and this comes out clean; or it is stringy to the touch. 
10.   Once it is ready, let it cool down for 5 minutes and finally remove from the cake tin and place on a cooling rack.
